Symptoms
Back Pain
It is believed that 80% of the population suffers from back pain at some point in life. Whether the pain is due to vertebral misalignments, disc protrusion, muscular spasm or nerve irritation, chiropractic is very effective in correcting the cause of back pain as opposed to masking its symptoms temporarily. Frequently pins and needles, sciatica, leg and hip pain originate from a lower back dysfunction, since the nerve supply to the legs come from the lumbar spine.
Neck Pain
Neck pain can be debilitating, whether due to whiplash injuries, poor work posture or ‘wear and tear’. If left uncorrected, the spine can deteriorate and be the cause of permanent pain, headaches, dizziness, shoulder, arm and wrist pain. If you suffer from any of these symptoms, it’s time to have a spinal check-up.
Arthritis
Arthritis means joint inflammation and there are over 200 different types of arthritis that can affect both young and old people. Arthritis can affect different parts of the body and each type has a different cause. Most arthritic conditions benefit greatly from Chiropractic treatment and should be considered as an adjunct to medical care, particularly osteoarthritis, which is the most common type of arthritis.
Sciatica
Sciatica refers to pain, weakness, numbness, or tingling in the leg. It is caused by injury to or pressure on the sciatic nerve. Sciatica is usually a symptom of another medical problem, such as a slipped disk or a pelvic injury.
Migraines
A chronic neurological disorder characterized by moderate to severe headaches, and nausea. The typical migraine headache is unilateral, throbbing, and moderate to severe, and can be aggravated by physical activity. While the underlying cause of migraines is unknown, anything from a bad back to Sciatica have been known to aggravate and cause many migraine like symptoms.
Pins and Needles
When a nerve is being irritated, or compressed, then the normal flow of nerve impulses will be compromised. This can result in pins and needles, burning sensation or numbness of the skin. The spinal nerves supply specific muscles, reflexes and areas of the skin. Your chiropractor can use this information to help pinpoint the exact origin of your symptoms and then put together a treatment plan to address your individual needs.
Neuralgia
A sharp, shocking pain that follows the path of a nerve and is due to irritation or damage to the nerve. Postherpetic neuralgia and trigeminal neuralgia are the two most common forms of neuralgia. A related but less common neuralgia affects the glossopharyngeal nerve, which provides feeling to the throat.
Digestion
The nervous system controls digestive function from several different regions. The vagus nerve which courses out of the brain stem and runs near the atlas bone innervates all the major organs of digestion and functions to stimulate the digestive process. Other major areas controlling the pace of digestion include the sympathetic nerves coming out of the thoracic & lumbar regions and the sacral parasympathetic nerve fibres. Spinal misalignment in any of these regions can lead to neurological compromise and altered digestive function.
Treatments
Nervous System
The reason chiropractors are so interested in your spine is because as well as allowing you to be upright and flexible, your spine also has the major role of protecting your nervous system. Your nervous system is your body’s main control system, regulating organs (such as the heart, lungs and digestive organs), glands, blood vessels and even the immune system.
Posture
Chiropractors primarily assess the alignment (posture) and movement of the spine and carry out muscle, orthopaedic and neurological tests to highlight any areas of the spine and/or the nervous system that are not functioning optimally. As well as the joints of the spine, chiropractors may also assess the function of other joints in your body including but not limited to shoulders, knees, elbows, ankles etc.
Mobility
Chiropractic care can help people of all ages alleviate painful symptoms, improve mobility and posture as well as most importantly improve overall health and well-being. Without our health it is very difficult to have the energy and vitality to be at our best. Many adults come to see us for this very reason.
Sports Injuries
Many musculoskeletal complaints arise from injuries sustained in sports. Each year we see athletic performance draw closer to the limits of human potential. Understanding the biomechanical principles involved helps us to prevent injury and restore functional integrity and stability through rehabilitation.
Pregnancy
Chiropractic care can be an invaluable part of your pregnancy. We aim to help as many mums-to-be throughout their pregnancy and beyond. Chiropractic care helps to restore balance, particularly to the pelvis, thus creating an environment for an easier, safer delivery as well as relieving any discomfort brought on by the altered posture and increased physical stress of pregnancy.
Younger Patients
The techniques we use for children are quite different to those used on adults and all adjustments are extremely gentle. A main goal of ours is to provide an environment that is welcoming, friendly and enjoyable for children to come into, both as a patient themselves and when coming along with Mum or Dad for their appointments.
Muscular Tension
People with tension-type headache often use manual therapy, such as spinal manipulation, soft tissue therapy, and myofascial trigger point treatment. A 2004 Cochrane review found that spinal manipulation may be effective for migraine and tension headache, and that spinal manipulation and neck exercises may be effective for cervicogenic headache.
General Health
We regularly help adults of all ages overcome conditions such as: neck pain, back pain, shoulder problems, posture problems and sports injuries as well as many other joint and muscle related problems. It is also very common to hear of changes such as increased energy, better sleep and an improvement in overall health and wellbeing.
How could we help you?
Digital Scan
– Detects areas of nerve disturbance and muscular tension
– Provides you with the appropriate chiropractic care
– Documents and monitors your progress
– Detects spinal problems early in children & adults without symptoms
The Insight Scan features two painless, non-invasive tests that help us characterise abnormal activity surrounding your spine. This activity can be associated with spinal misalignments or other forms of spinal dysfunction. The Muscle Balance or Symmetry Pattern Scan measures the amount of ‘pull’ the muscles surrounding the spine are exerting.
When the spine is out of alignment, it causes a muscle imbalance, resulting in fatigued or weak muscles along the spine. The Thermal Scan measures temperature differences between each side of your body. When the communication between the nervous system and blood vessels is disturbed, it causes the body’s thermostat to malfunction, producing an imbalanced temperature reading along the spine.
Your body can be malfunctioning for months, even years, before you experience any symptoms, and often spinal problems do not cause any pain or discomfort until they have progressed to an advanced stage. The Insight Scan helps to identify these problems, using your body’s automatic means of communicating the problem before these painful symptoms start.
At Cloverfield, we will monitor and improve your spine’s condition using the Insight scan, preventing painful problems before they occur and helping your body work at its best.
